HARTS — The investigation continues this morning into just how a pair of thieves were able to steal a city of Logan Water Department truck which was used on Thursday during a daring daylight robbery attempt at a pharmacy in Harts.

It is believed that robbers stole the water truck from the city of Logan to use as a getaway vehicle. The City of Logan Police Department was reportedly trying to find out exactly how the truck was taken.

According to different sources two males attempted to rob the Harts Pharmacy at gunpoint on Thursday around 9:15 a.m.

The thieves reportedly left the truck behind and fled on foot.

One was described as being around 5”10 and weighing around 180 pounds. The other thief was described as being larger at 6’2 and 240 pounds.

One local police officer told The Logan Banner that the stolen water truck was recovered in the Harts area, where it had been abandoned.

Several shots were exchanged during the robbery attempt and it is believed that one of the thieves was struck as blood was reportedly found on the seat of the getaway vehicle. Samples of the blood were taken and may be submitted to the West Virginia State Police Crime Lab to see if a match can be made from the database on file.

“They stole it either late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning from the water department, “ Mayor Serafino Nolletti said. “It was not damaged, but they painted the two side windows black so people could not see them. The state police are keeping it a few days as it had blood in it so they can take some DNA samples and check for other evidence. It has been a crazy week!”

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the West Virginia State Police at 304-824-3101 or 304-792-7200. Information about the stolen truck can be relayed to the WVSP or to the Logan Police Department at 304-752-6535.
