Belfry’s Jeremy Maynard ripped a solo homer in the top of the sixth to break a tie as the Pirates improved to 11-5 on the season. Belfry had beaten Logan, 8-2, earlier in the season at home.
Belfry pitchers Brandon Chapman and Zack Francis combined to hold the Wildcats (7-8) to five hits. David Brown was the starting pitcher for Logan. He had a six-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Corey Lakatos was 2-for-2 at the plate with two doubles for the Wildcats. Todd Fleming also doubled and Shaun Wagner added a single. Clint Hale doubled off the fence in the seventh to give Logan a shot at tying the game. However, his pinch-runner was stranded at third as the Pirates held on to get the win.
Logan is scheduled to return to action Friday with its annual McDonald’s Classic. The Wildcats play Matewan at 5 p.m. and Greenbrier East at 8.
The Wildcats are then slated to play East again on Saturday at 1 p.m.

CHARLESTON – The Logan High School softball team ran its record to 17-2 on the season with Tuesday night’s 13-0 win at Capital.
Taylor Norman pitched the win for the Class AAA No. 4-ranked Lady Cats. She allowed no runs and two hits with nine strikeouts over five innings.
Katie Chryssofos continued to swing a hot bat as she was 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI.
Emily Vinson was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while Morgan Aguirre went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and one RBI. Lara Sedlock was 2-for-4 with a double. Norman doubled and Erica Kelley added a single.
The Lady Cats host rival Chapmanville today at 5:30 p.m.
