CHIEF LOGAN STATE PARK — The Chief Logan Rec Center will be holding its grand opening ceremony next week.

After months of delays while the facility waited on its workout equipment and computer systems to be installed, the rec center is now fully operational and open to members.

The grand opening ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. and Gov. Joe Manchin and Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin are scheduled to attend.

“We are fully operational,” Chief Logan Rec Center Director said on Wednesday. “People are already using the pool.”

McCoy said the plans are to keep the building growing.

“We are a work in progress,” McCoy said. “We are very pleased with the current product. I think we have a facility that is very well-equipped and I think the people of the community can be proud of this great addition.

“We are pleased with our progress thus far, but we intend to grow and expand. The next big step is to implement programming and activities and we’ve done some of that, but there’s a whole lot more that we want to do.”

Currently, the rec center staff is conducting zumba classes, aerobics and water aerobics.

McCoy said the biggest goal is for the area to start swim teams.

“We want to start some youth programs and do summer programs and get swim teams in our high schools,” McCoy said.
