CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. Almos Napier, 82, of Hidden Valley of Chapmanville, was born February 2, 1928, at Shegon, a son of the late Thomas F. and Maltie Maynard Napier. He departed this life Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Logan Regional Medical Center.

Also preceding him in death was his son, Rev. Robert L. “Bob” Napier, and two brothers, Cletis and Orville Napier.

Mr. Napier was a retired self-employed service station operator, a member of the Central United Baptist Church since 1952 and former trustee and choir leader, he was a former singer with the Napier Family, an incorporator and board of director of the Bank of Chapmanville (Chapmanville’s first bank), a member of the VFW and American Legion. Almos was a veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II, he finished as a Gunner Mate 3rd Class, joining in May 1943 at the age of 15 and served till June 1, 1945. He served on the USS Indiana (BB58), boarding August 9, 1943 and was wounded on February 1, 1944 off the coast of Majuro Island. He received nine battle stars, a silver and four bronze.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty Runyon Napier; daughter, Linda (Jack) Bailey of Henlawson; five grandchildren, Sabrina (David) Clark of Summerfield, N.C., Tammie (Sean) Adams of Hickory, N.C., April Bailey of Huntington and Maria Conley and Myrna (Scott) Chapman, both of Chapmanville; five great-grandchildren, Andy Chapman, Sarah Likens, Kayla (Martin) Miller, Tomarra Conley and Jenna Adams; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Alvie (Dolly Jean) Napier of Germantown, Tenn.; sister, Betty Lambert of Chapmanville; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Napier of Chapmanville; sister-in-law, Edna Napier of Chapmanville; several nieces and nephews and his caregiver, whom the family wishes to especially thank, Thilda Lilley.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville with Rev. Glenn White Jr. and Rev. Bobby Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with no graveside services conducted.

Pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of the Central United Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central United Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1558, Logan, WV 25601 or Chapmanville United Baptist Church, Airport Road, Chapmanville, WV 25508.

Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
