Jason Teasley will be taking part in the St. Jude’s Children Hospital’s upcoming event called the “Miracle Mile.”
“He is going to be riding from the Fountain Place Cinema 8 to the Quaker Steak and Lube at South Charleston for donations and to raise awareness to the program at the St. Jude’s Children Hopsital,” Magistrate Jeff Lane said.
Lane told The Logan Banner that when he heard about Teasley’s plan to assist the well-known charity he wanted to do something to assist in his charity ride.
“So, I donated the bike that he will be riding and when the event is over the bike will also be donated to the hospital,” Lane said.
“He will be riding this Saturday, May 29 starting at 7 a.m. What St. Jude’s hospital does is so very important and we hope to get people interested in it and supporting the hospital.
“You may not know it, but there are children in Logan County who have been assisted by St. Jude’s,” Lane continued.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, founded in 1962, is a leading pediatric treatment and research facility focused on children’s catastrophic diseases.
It is located in Memphis, Tennessee and is a nonprofit medical corporation.
St. Jude’s was founded by entertainer Danny Thomas on the premise that “no child should die in the dawn of life.” Thomas named the hospital for Saint Jude patron saint of hospitals, desperate cases and lost causes.
Thomas was a struggling young entertainer when he knelt in a Detroit church before a statue of St. Jude and asked the saint to “show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine.”
Thomas believed his prayer was answered, and he soon moved his family to Chicago to pursue career offers.
In 1957, he founded the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC), which helped him realize his dream. ALSAC is also the fundraising organization of St. Jude’s.
Since St. Jude’s opened its doors in 1962, ALSAC has had the responsibility of raising the necessary funds to keep the hospital open.
