Born June 6, 1925, at Mallory, he was a son of the late John and Wilma Sammons. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 61 years, Iris; his brother, Paul, and a sister, Carol Jean.
Arthur was previously employed by Powellton and Island Creek Coal Companies. He was a Federal mine inspector; a mine owner-operator and formerly part owner of Dixon Hardware. Also, he was a member of the Board of Directors of The Bank of Man and Logan General Hospital. He was a former member of the Town Council of Man and the Man Rotary Club. When he was able, Arthur attended the Claypool United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. Arthur was an avid golfer and a former Little League Baseball coach.
After his recently departed wife, Arthur’s next love was Southern Gospel Music. He sang bass with the Mallory Quartet, along with his wife’s sister, Athleen, her husband, Ray Brooks, and Waitman Brown.
Survivors include his brother, John (Patty) Sammons of Garden Grove, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Pat Sammons of Teays Valley, and a special niece, Patty Brooks (Jim) Roach, who took care of Arthur’s needs for many years. Also left to cherish his memory are 22 nieces and nephews; 32 great-nieces and nephews and 63 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Arthur was blessed to have devoted caregivers, Teresa Paynter, Della Johnson, Amber Clay and Martha Osborne.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin with his nephew, Rev. Ronald R. Brooks, and Rev. Bryan C. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Claypool Cemetery at Davin.
Pallbearers will be Bill Cline, David Cochran, Emil Tomblin, Millard Tomblin, Jim Frye, and Orville Davis.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. today at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
