Born October 28, 1959, at Logan, he was a son of Mrs. Eunice Hairston of Omar and the late Frank Charles Hairston. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Stephen Charles Hairston; paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.
Matt was a member of the Glorious Church of God in Christ in South Charleston under the Bishopship of the late Sidney and Mary Bass. He was a graduate of Logan High School and attended Marshall University.
Additional survivors include two sons, Darrell A Hairston of Columbus, Ohio, and Frankie C Hairston of Peach Creek; one step-son, Kevin Boykins of Columbus; one daughter, Kourtney W. Hairston of Columbus; two step-daughters, Kim Dawn Boykins of Columbus and Ciara; two brothers, Carlton P. Hairston of Glade Springs and Kim V. (Margo) Hairston of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters, Pamela (W.C.) Jennings of Greensboro, N.C., and Tammy (Richard) Day of Dunbar; grandmother, Ruby DeBerry of Logan Center Nursing; three aunts, Willa Major of Omar, Rosalie Graham of Texas and Elizabeth Scruggs of Toledo; five grandchildren, Demetrius, D.J., Kevin, Chico and Kyaliyah, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 21, at the Omar Glorious Church of God in Christ with Elder Robert Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Guyan Memorial Gardens at Godby
Pallbearers will be his nephews and his nieces will serve as flower bearers
Visitation will begin one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
