An elderly man was injured when he crashed his car about a block from him home Friday afternoon in downtown Logan.
Fonso Dotson, 89, of Morgan Street in Logan, had just pulled out away from his home when he accelerated his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole on the corner of Cole and Elm.
Sgt. Dave White with the Logan Police investigated the crash that happened about 1:25 p.m. and said Dotson apparently stepped on the gas pedal of his Ford Taurus instead of his brake, causing him to slam into the pole. White said Dotson was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
"He had a couple cuts on him and he appeared to be disoriented," White said. "He had just pulled out of his home on Morgan Street," which is just a block over from Elm Street.
Logan firefighters Tony Casey and Justin Conley assisted White with the crash. Traffic was blocked in the area for about half an hour while Premium Towing pulled the car away from the pole.
