Manchin the best man to fill Byrd’s senate seat

All of West Virginia was saddened by the death of Sen. Robert C. Byrd, who has long been one of the greatest leaders this country has ever seen.

Now, as the state scrambles to figure out who should fill his senate post, we want to be the first to urge Gov. Joe Manchin to appoint himself to the senate seat.

We know Gov. Manchin has said he won’t appoint himself, but we hope he reconsiders this decision. Gov. Manchin is the only person who can effectively pick up where Byrd left off and continue to work for our state.

We normally wouldn’t recommend the governor appointing himself to Byrd’s place in the senate, but the state needs someone who is ready to go right to work for our people and who is going to fight for all West Virginians as Sen. Byrd did.

Gov. Manchin is already a great leader and would have a head start over all other candidates for the senate job. Whoever fills the senate seat will be in power for two and a half years at a very critical time for our state.

Gov. Manchin probably won’t have any serious competition in the upcoming 2012 senate race and he will most likely win the seat anyway, so why not get him into the senate and get him working for the people of West Virginia, just like Sen. Byrd did for more of his life? It just seems like the best decision for our state.

It will be hard for anyone to replace Sen. Byrd in the senate, but we believe Gov. Manchin is definitely the best man for the job.

Just an FYI, Senator Byrd also brought the Vietnam Veterans Out Station to Logan. The first one in the United States to serve rural Veterans'.

ender, again let me inform you.

Forty four Republician fascist voted for the war mongering resolution.

Twenty nine Arch Moore Demorcrats voted for the war mongering resolution.

Senator Byrd was one of 21 Demorcrats that voted against the resolution.

If you call this party lines, you are still in a coma.

There is no such thing as a professional politian. But, there is those that are re-elected over and over by people like you.

Just look in the Logan County court house.

Could have / would have , that is so typicial. I know i ask for someone to tell me what he ever did to help our state (besides pork) , however you did not state anything that is real. In my opinion there should be no such thing as a professional politian , lets do what our founding fathers intended and limit terms for all public offices. Have you ever heard the quote , Go please go you have been around far to long for any good you may have done...we have civial services to ensure continuity of government...as far as standing up to Bush all he did was spout party line , like any good lacky....Get Real...

ender,

For sure you have not been in a coma for the last 50 years.

How could you write down the thousands of improvement Sen.Byrd brought to WV and our Nation.

Two come to the top of my mind. The Justice Dam which did and would have kept the residents of the Guyandotte Basin high and dry if not for Mountain Top Removal Mining.

The corridor highway system which gave us a 4 lane hardtop road in Southwestern, West Virginia.

But, the most outstanding thing that I beleive he did was to stand in the U.S. Senate chamber and chastise the war mongering Bush/Cheney regime for wanting to invade Iraq without a declaration of war from Congress.

He stood up and shook the Constitution and said take that Mr. President.

Bush/Cheney then invaded Iraq under the Bush Doctrine and our soldiers are still bleeding there.

I beleive that Manchin would be just another lobbist for Don and Massey Energy. The person that is appointed to Sen. Byrd's seat should not be in the coal industry's pocket.

I beleive that the best (man) for the job is a woman. I would like to see Charlotte Pritt as our next U.S. Senator from West Virginia.
