Byrd worked tirelessly to bring federal funds home to West Virginia to improve infrastructure and life in general for each and every resident. He was the conscience of the U.S. Senate and fought to maintain its time-honored traditions. He was a true patriot in that he defended the United States Constitution. He could quote Bible scripture as well as he could passages from the Constitution.
Neither West Virginia nor our country will ever see another senator as devoted and unwavering in his beliefs as Sen. Robert C. Byrd.
We were all saddened by his passing. His death marked the end of a more noble era.
Byrd may well be the greatest senator this country has ever seen and we are glad that President Obama and Vice President Biden will be attending his memorial service tomorrow morning in Charleston.
We all need to pay tribute to his work, his life and his love for his home state and his fellow West Virginians and we hope everyone turns out for his memorial service tomorrow.
