MAN — A local woman was arrested on a warrant this week over an alleged fraud attempt that allegedly happened last year.

Jolene Tackett, 28, of Accoville, was arrested by Man Police Department Chief David Walls on June 29 on a warrant for forgery and uttering. She was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 7:45 p.m.

Chief Walls said the alleged crime appears to be drug related in a most unusual way.

"Last October, she cashed a check for this guy. Supposedly, another individual owed him $600-$700 for crack she got from him, and, supposedly, he gave Jolene Tackett the check and asked for it to be cashed as he reportedly told her he did not have an account anywhere and asked her to cash the check for him."

According to the police report, on Oct. 2, 2009, "the accused entered Man Clothing on Main Street and cashed a (social security) check," the report states. "According to Tackett's written statement (another individual) flagged her over when she was driving and asked for a ride to go cash a check ... and asked Tackett if she could cash it for him."

The man reportedly produced two identification cards belonging to the victim and allegedly said she gave it to him because she owed him $600-$700 for crack cocaine.

"The accused stated that the check had already been signed. The accused entered Man Clothing, cashed the check producing both IDs and exited the store. "She gave all the money to the man who provided the checks and ID.
