Chapmanville’s Zac Gresham is having a good summer of golf.

Gresham is currently tied for sixth place in the 17-18 year-old division of the West Virginia Top Flight Junior Golf Tour.

With only three tournaments remaining, Gresham is guaranteed a spot in the Tour Championship which will be played at the Parkersburg Country Club on July 19.

Gresham’s lowest rounds were a pair of 1-over par 71’s last week at The Greenbrier Resorts Meadows course and two weeks ago at Riverside Golf Club. Both rounds netted him a second place finish.

Gresham has also carded a pair of 74’s and two 77’s resulting in a third place finish at Lewisburg, a seventh place finish at Olgebay and Green Hills Country Club and another top 10 at Golf Club of West Virginia. Olgebay was the site of this years’ State High School Golf Tournament.

Gresham’s solid play this year has also kept him in fourth place in the West Virgina Golf Associations Player of the Year race. Hurricane’s Brian Anaina and Taylor Green along with Parkersburg’s Austin Root hold down the top three spots.

This week’s West Virginia Junior Amature being held at Guyan Golf & Country Club will determine not only the Player of the Year winner, but will decide who will represent the state in the Tri-State Junior Armature to be held July 23-24 at the famed Pete Dye Course in Clarksburg. The top eight point winners will represent West Virginia in the annual event which is played against juniors from Virgina and Maryland.

“I’m excited about playing in this years Junior Am,” Gresham said. “All the top Junior players will be there. We’ve played against each other in every Top Flight tournament this year. It should be a great tournament.”

Gresham said he’s been driving the ball well most of the year, but recently have been hitting more fairways.

“My confidence in my putting has gotten better since changing putters two weeks ago. If I do well at the AM, I have a great opportunity to make the Tri-State team. That would be the ultimate achievement of this golf season,” he said.

Several other local golfers are also competing on the Top Flight Tour this summer.

Chapmanville’s Jacob Workman and Forrest Roberts, Logan’s Samuel Corns and J.C. Motes and Davey Jude of Kermit are all in contention in their respective age groups for the Tour Championship.

Corns is currently 15th in the 13-14 year-old division. Workman and Motes are in the top 25. Jude is currently 21st in the 15-16 year-old division. J.T. Lester is playing on the Tri-State Tour in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio. Lester has two first-place finishes in four events in the 15-16 age division.
