Shane Matthew Adkins, 22, of Mt. Gay, was arrested by WVSP Trooper B.K. Wellman for malicious wounding, conspiracy and obstructing an officer on July 12. He was booked at the regional jail at 8:28 a.m.
Clayton Matthew Frye, 28, of Mt. Gay, was arrested by Tpr. Wellman for burglary and conspiracy on July 12. He was booked at the regional jail at 8:20 a.m.
Stephanie Kristine Williams, 30, of Delbarton, was arrested by Tpr. Wellman for conspiracy, false information, and obstructing an officer on July 12. She was booked at the regional jail at 9:04 a.m.
According to police reports, on July 12, Adkins allegedly conspired with Williams and Frye to break into a residence at Dempsey Branch. The three accused were caught in the process by a passerby and, when confronted by the witness, the three suspects allegedly tried to leave in a vehicle.
When the witness reached into the vehicle to turn the key off to keep them there, Adkins allegedly accelerated and intentionally drove out of the driveway at a high rate of speed, nearly running over the witness and causing injury to his left arm.
Adkins allegedly drove the car into a fence and the witness was able to keep the three suspects them there until police arrived, the report said.
“Upon arrival, the officer observed the back door had been kicked in and a clothes dryer had been removed from the residence and was lying by the driveway,” the police report states. “The officer was advised by the witness that one of the males had fled the scene.”
The officer asked Adkins who the other one was but he allegedly claimed he did not know his identity.
The vehicle had no insurance and improper registration, the report said.
Initially, Williams told Tpr. Wellman there was no other male with them and that no one had fled.
The officer determined the identity of Frye from the witness and from Williams.
Tpr. Wellman then went to Frye’s residence and took him into custody.
The trio were arraigned on Monday by Magistrate Dwight Williams who set bond at $30,000 each for Adkins and Frye.
During arraignment, Adkins allegedly told a corrections officer at the Southwestern Regional Jail he was confused.
Frye told Magistrate Williamson that he did not know who the man was who tried to stop him.
“I didn’t see whose arm was in the window,” he said.
Williamson explained to the three suspects that they face 1-5 years in prison on the conspiracy charges and up to 15 years in prison on the burglary charge. Williamson said Frye had served time before on burglary charges.
