WEST LOGAN — Members of the West Logan Town Council discussed an upcoming audit and several problems that are causing problems in the town during the July council meeting.
Last year's audit took several weeks and cost several thousand dollars, which struck many council members as preposterous considering the town's small budget, which is around $120,000 a year, and the fact that in past years audits only took three days.
Town Attorney Dan Dahill said the council needs to tell the state that if it took more than three days this year the town won’t pay for it.
Town Clerk Kristie Adkins said the town recently got a bill for the last audit for $3,600.
West Logan Mayor Darren Akers said there are some problematic potholes in town that need repairs and that the Logan County Public Service District had been contacted over them already.
"The PSD is not doing their share," Akers said. "If they don't get this taken care of, I will get onto them again."
Akers said a church in the area has been leaving garbage bags being left out in the open.
"They need a garbage bin with a lid," Akers said.
"If they don't do something we will have to give them a ticket."
Police Chief Robert Ward gave the town's safety report and police reports.
Ward said Rick Lowe, who built an apartment complex on First Avenue, has made some repairs on First Avenue. Adkins said the repairs are a major improvement as they keep water flow and drainage problems to a minimum.
Ward said the air conditioning in the police cruiser went out again and that several street lights were out, but had been reported.
Ward said June had been a fairly slow month for his department with a few domestic incidents in the town and one major theft at B&M repair.
A large piece of expensive equipment was left outside and had been stolen on a Wednesday evening.
