BECKLEY — U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) has announced that Logan County and the City of Logan will receive $62,871 in funding from FY 10 Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant (JAG) Program to secure essential law enforcement equipment for Logan County and the City of Logan Police Departments.

“This equipment is necessary and long overdue for our local law enforcement officers,” Rahall said in the press release. “I worked to pass the Recovery Act through Congress so that the funding for these tangible tools would be available to help our local communities remain safe and secure. Safer streets mean neighborhoods grow and businesses prosper. We all win with more jobs and a better peace of mind.”

Logan County and the City of Logan will use these Recovery Act JAG funds to purchase essential equipment including firearms and munitions; radar units for traffic enforcement; gun racks for patrol vehicles; and, portable radios to enhance communication abilities.

"The City of Logan is honored to be a recipient of such a prestigious grant, and grateful for the assistance from Congressman Rahall's office," said Logan Mayor Serafino Nolletti. "This grant will allow necessary updates for our Police Department and provide added protection for our officers."

The Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) awards were made possible by the Recovery Act, which Rahall supported, and are administered through the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance.

“The Recovery Act has provided an influx of federal dollars to help our communities pay salaries, purchase necessary equipment and keep our country going,” said Rahall. “The JAG grants are just one example of how we can see federal Recovery Act dollars working to ensure our officers have the equipment they need to do their jobs, keeping our families safe.”

Here we go; election time draws near, and Rahall opens the flood gates of goverment funds. In reality, it is our money he is giving back to us. $500 billion slashed from Medicare, $700 million on burros and mules, and $40 million for land in the Virgin Islands for a tourist attraction. He is working on balancing the cuts and spending.....I guess.
