CHARLESTON — A federal grand jury has slimmed down the gambling case against a former West Virginia lawmaker and added one of his employees as a co-defendant.

The revised indictment against Joe C. Ferrell still alleges he ran an illegal gambling racket in both West Virginia and Kentucky.

It also alleges the former Logan County delegate bribed a West Virginia Lottery investigator.

Ferrell’s company, Southern Amusement, leases video lottery machines and is also a defendant. The latest indictment adds company employee Mark Anthony Cantrell to its main racketeering and illegal gambling counts.

He’s also accused of mail fraud.

The revised indictment handed up Tuesday has 11 fewer charges than the previous batch. Most were interstate racketeering counts against Ferrell.

This guy will never do a day in jail. mark my word. The rich don't do confinement. If a rich man is caught stealing it is called cleptomania and the man should be treated for his illness with medicine and therapy. If a poor man is caught stealing he is a thief and needs to go to prison. The double standard that we live in today is blatantly obvious to all. The rich people steal without any filters to stop them. Go to any politicians home and see how they are living. It is easy to see what their salaries are but I can guarantee you that they are either doing a little something on the side or they have mastered how to live like a millionaire on a poor mans wage.
