The incident occurred at a house on First Avenue not far from the traffic light around 2 p.m. when the unknown subject entered the residence with a baseball bat and attacked the victim.
According to some witnesses in the area, the victim was a visitor from Detroit who was staying at the residence.
The suspect fled after delivering a brutal beating to the victim with the baseball bat. The victim was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment while police began processing the crime scene. Reportedly there was blood splatter all over the kitchen of the residence. The Logan County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation.
Residents in the area were shocked Friday when the area was cordoned off as police began an intensive investigation. The weapon was reportedly recovered by authorities and has been taken into custody as evidence. Blood from the victim is believed to be on it and possibly the suspects fingerprints.
Reportedly their were some witnesses to the incident and the Logan County Sheriff's Department was trying to confirm what had happened from them yesterday. Early Tuesday morning Chief Deputy Kent Dingess told The Logan Banner that the victim had regained consciousness and that two officers were heading to the hospital to talk with him and find out more about the nature of the incident and what lead to it as well as find leads to bring the suspect into custody. Dingess confirmed the suspect may face charges of malicious assault at this point.
