CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Robert R. “Bob” Mays Jr., 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, December 19, 2012, following a short illness at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born December 9, 1945, in Logan, he was a son of the late Robert R. Sr. and Mary Frances Bell Mays.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bob was Executive Director and CEO of Logan Mingo Area Mental Health. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chapmanville, where he served as a deacon and song leader, and a member of the Gideons International. He served on the board of the Logan County Emergency Ambulance Authority and Board of Licensure for Professional Counselors and served on the Governor’s Special Drug Task Force. Bob was an Eagle Scout and received the God & Country Award. Bob honorably served his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. A graduate of Bob Jones University and received his Masters in Counseling from Liberty University.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Cecilia; sons, Robert R. Mays III and wife Kelly of Greenville, S.C., Richard Wilson Mays of Logan, and Ryan F. Mays and wife Marsha of Chapmanville; daughter, Melody Anne Tanner and husband Rick of Salt Rock; a dozen grandchildren: Abby, Amy, and Amanda Mays of Greenville, Sarah, Richie and Tyler Mays of Logan, Rachel, Ricky, Luke and Jenna Tanner of Salt Rock, Jonah and Kayleigh Jo Mays of Chapmanville; brother, Rodney Mays and wife Debbe; nieces and nephews, Meg (Michael) Benthall of Greenville SC, Joshua (Sandra) Peterson of Portland, Ore., Elizabeth (Bruce) Dayton of Rocky Mount, N.C., Abraham Wilson of Minneapolis, N.C., and Anna Wilson of St. Kitts.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23, at the Central United Baptist Church at Logan with Dr. Rodney S. Mays and Pastor Jeff Hargraves officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-10 p.m. Saturday at the Central United Baptist Christian Center.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Meade, Fred Runyon, Raamie Barker, Roger Bryant, Dallas Hunter and Joe Hatfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Mays, John Bell, Billy Bledsoe, Jeff Lane, Don Jarvis, Orville Pridemore, Doug McElwain and Art Kirkendoll.
