HARLAN, Ky. (AP) — Four eastern Kentucky coal mines are being idled, affecting 260 jobs.

WYMT-TV reports Alpha Natural Resources said Friday that it idled three mines in the Cumberland community of Harlan County and at one mine in the Partridge community of Letcher County.

The company said 200 miners were laid off immediately, and transfers will be offered to another 60.

Alpha Natural Resources spokeswoman Samantha Davidson said the “tough decision” was necessary as the company looks to streamline operations and operate more efficiently.

She said miners will continue to get pay and benefits for 60 days.

The impoverished people of that area can send their thanks to the jackass in the white house. It was his policies that put them out of work!
