CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Joseph Edward Fowler, 68, of Chapmanville, departed this life Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 5, 1944, in Chapmanville, he was a son of the late Thomas Everett and Abby Hoover Fowler. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, William “Buck” Fowler, Teddy Fowler, Rodney Owen Fowler and James Everett Fowler; three brothers-in-law, Albert Thompson, Raymond Police and Wesley Hurt, and one sister-in-law, Loretta Fowler.
Joe was a graduate of Chapmanville High and an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he began his family life as a loving husband and devoted father of two. Joe was a coal miner, a member of the UMWA for more than 25 years and of the Church of Christ faith. He was proud to be a member of the Masonic lodge and an avid supporter of Chapmanville Athletics — he loved those Tigers. Joe enjoyed old cars and car shows and was one of the driving forces to get the My Town Cruze In and Burnouts started. He enjoyed meeting new people and talking. He never met a stranger. Over the years he has acquired many friends and he cherished time spent with each one. His pride and joy was his two grandsons; words cannot express the love he had for them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Brenda Ruth Ball Fowler; two sons, Joey (Jeannie) Fowler and Everett Fowler, both of Chapmanville; four sisters, June Fowler Thompson, LeaEtta “Dinah” Fowler Hurt, Macil Fowler (Dale) Bates and Patty Fowler Police (Richard Bell); one brother; Carl “Boge” Fowler; two grandchildren, Austin Fowler and Ethan Fowler, and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 20, at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Mann officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday, January 19, from 6-10 p.m. at the funeral home.
