The Man High School boys’ basketball team dropped to 3-10 on the season with Friday night’s 79-52 loss at Greater Beckley Christian.

Man trailed 21-9 after one quarter, 38-27 at the half and 61-35 after three. The Hillbillies outscored the Crusaders 19-18 in the fourth.

Greater Beckley Christian, ranked No. 10 in the state in Class A and having one of its best seasons in school history, improved to 6-1 with the victory.

Sophomore Mikle Scott Rowe and freshman Jake Adkins led the young Billies with 12 points each. Adkins had a double-double with 12 rebounds.

Man senior Clay Brumfield finished with 10 points, four assists, two steals and two boards.

Chris Justice, a senior guard, had nine points, three assists and three rebounds for the Billies.

Man freshman guard John Thomas Keffer had four points, three steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Kenny Joe Adkins and Cayce Mullins chipped in with three and two points respectively.

Keith Mullins led Greater Beckley Christian with a 26-point game. Elisha Kidd had 17 points, while Oak Hill transfer Javonne Shaunton-Bailey had a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Crusaders hit on 29-of-55 field goals for 52.7 percent, including a sizzling 9-for-18 from 3-point territory. Man was just 20-for-57 shooting for 35.1 percent, including 8-of-25 from behind the 3-point arc.

Man was 4-for-8 from the free throw line. Greater Beckley Christian was 12-for-18.

The Billies are scheduled to return to the hardwood on Tuesday at home against River View. Man beat the Raiders on the road in the season opener.

Man then hosts the same Greater Beckley Christian team on Friday night.

Then on Saturday, Jan. 26, Man goes to Tug Valley, a new Class A sectional opponent and last year’s Double-A state champions.
