You can make a difference

Editor,

I am writing to inform the community about SAFE (Saving Animals from Euthanasia). I am not a member of the Logan community geographically speaking, but I am a member of the SAFE page on Facebook.

It was recently brought to my attention that Logan County Dog Pound has received a large number of medium to large sized dogs from a terrible hoarding situation. The volunteers work tirelessly on Facebook promoting the adoption of cats and dogs. Not a day goes by that these volunteers aren’t advocating for change, help, adoption, transport, money or networking for these helpless creatures.

The time has come for all of us to come together to work on solutions for solving the problem of pet overpopulation throughout the US. Please get the word out about the many, many, many wonderful animals at the Logan County Dog Pound and please do whatever you can to help save homeless pets.

If you’re reading this, please know that you are one person and that you can make a difference. Volunteer, network, transport, foster, hang fliers, donate blankets, food, or money. If you can’t do any of those things, tell your friends about how amazing the volunteers are at Logan County Dog Pound.

A friend from Maryland,

Jayme Levy

Reserved gifts

Editor,

Recently I attended the funeral of a family member in Man and I must say I was very disturbed by one of your local customs. It seems it is the custom to “reserve” gifts and flowers for anyone you wish to have the item at the end of the funeral services.

This became a problem after the funeral when the family had to “divide” the gifts. It was very uncomfortable.

What was even more disturbing was finding out that the flower shop had reserved gifts for the wrong person and had to correct it in the following days. Can you imagine the embarrassment of having someone call you and ask you to return the gift/flowers to the flower shop so they can see that it gets to the correct person? Can you imagine the family wondering how many other mistakes were made?

It would certainly save a lot of heartache and embarrassment if people would just send a gift to the individual’s home if they want them to have it after the service rather than “reserve” it?

Just saying…

Thank you Jayme for your kind words. SAFE has been helping the animals of Logan County for over 11 months now. We have had so much support from the wonderful residents of Logan County as well as from all over the United States. I am so surprised at the kindness that has been shown to the animals of Logan County. SAFE has been working with the Logan Pound for 11 months and have been helping citizens rehome their animals as well. SAFE has saved over 1300 animals. SAFE has a foster program in place as well as transport animals to safety in other states. If you would like to help SAFE please email logancountyanimals@gmail.com or visit us at https://www.facebook.com/logancountyanimals.

As a Board Member of the newly formed animal group in Logan County,WV, the Logan WV Animal Rescue League, Inc., I would like to express my thanks to Chris and Jerry at the Logan County Dog Pound for their dedication and committment to the dogs and cats at the pound. I am also a Board Member with both Webark Estates, a No-Kill Recommended Organization, and the Ohio Valley Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty For Animals (O.V.S.P.C.A.), so I am in contact with many dog pounds across the state, and have found the Logan County Dog Pound employees to be passionate and caring about the dogs and cats in their facility. Chris and Jerry encourage local adoptions, work with rescues across the country, and have a solid spay/neuter policy. I would like to ask everyone's help: if you are unable to adopt or foster a pet, perhaps you can donate supplies to the Logan County Dog Pound. Blankets, cleaning supplies, dog and cat food, treats, and toys can always be used at the Dog Pound. Working together, we can make a difference for homeless animals in Logan County!

I like animals as much as the next person but I am tired of getting abused as a taxpayer!! According to the County Commsion office we, as taxpayers are paying for everything the pound needs, so why are they asking for donations?? Isn't Logan county taxpayers paying for all the supplies those animals need such as food, cleaning supplies,ect....Taxpayers money being wasted again...come on County Commsion open your eyes and put a stop to taxpayer abuse!!!!

SAFE is a wonderful rescue group who works very hard to remove the animals from the pound - the donations we receive is actually used for the animals and getting them into rescue - any donations sent to the pound such as blankets, toys, beds or food will not be used - Wal Mart provides the food for the animals there and the rescue group SAFE is actually run by volunteers in LOGAN COUNTY - thanks for all the support!!!!
