Logan County Commission member and former coach Willie Akers, 75, underwent surgery Monday to repair a fractured vertebrae and broken nose.

Akers fell last week at the Charleston Civic Center.

Family members’ report that the surgery went well and the vent Akers was placed on as a precautionary measure will be removed.

Akers will have some rehabilitation once he is released from the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
