HOLDEN, W.Va. — Franklin Dee “Butch” “Sarge” McNeely, 76, of Holden, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born September 18, 1936, at Crooked Creek, he was a son of the late Floyd and Ruth Whitman McNeely. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Mackie McNeely, Leo McNeely Sr., and Glen “Crip” McNeely, and three sisters, Anise Finley, LaVeda Flemings, and Ardell Conley.

Sarge was a faithful member of the 21 Holden Memorial Freewill Baptist Church and American Legion Post 73 of St. Albans. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service, serving one tour of duty in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Ova Webb McNeely; two daughters, Debra Lynn (Michael “Chopper”) Williamson of Texas and Gwen McNeely (Carl Tomblin) of Chapmanville; three grandchildren, Jason (Crestal) Williamson and Ashley Williamson, both of Texas, and Kayla McNeely of Chapmanville; four great-grandchildren, Jaylen Davis, Peyton Williamson, Synsere Price and Anthony Todd Jeffrey, and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Pebo McNeely, Jonathan Mink, Leo McNeely Jr., Greg Davidson, Cecil Williams Jr. and Kenny Collins.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Cecil Williams Sr., Donnie Duty, Bobby Frazier, Toby Toney, Dennie Browning, Charles Evans and Mike Allie.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 21 Holden Memorial Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. John T. Vance and Lacy Cox Jr. officiating. He will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Military Graveside Rites.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the church.

James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of the arrangements.

This is Marcia, Hershel McCloud granddaughter.... I am very sorry to here about Butch, he was an amazing man and very well respected by many people. He was a great fried to my grandparents and to our family. He will be missed by so many, our thoughts and prayers go out to the loving family of Butch McNelly may god bless each one of you.
