DINGESS, W.Va. — John Swinfield Jones Jr., 90, of Dingess, departed this life Sunday, December 16, 2012, at his home.

Born August 18, 1922, on Twelve Pole Creek in Mingo County, he was a son of the late John Swinfield II and Cuba Vance Jones. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Benny Jones; sister, Sarah Shelton, and a very special great-granddaughter, Karley Florence May.

Mr. Jones was a retired security guard, of the Baptist religion, and a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre. He later joined the U.S. Air Force with a rank of Staff Sgt. in the Korean Conflict era. He was proud to be of service to fellow veterans at the VA Hospital.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 58 years, Nancy Messer Jones; two sons, John S. (Martha Elste) Jones III of Lenore and James Benny (Mona Wellman) Jones of Dingess; three daughters, Sharon Kay Jones (George) Lackey, and Sharry Lynn Jones (Estel “Puddy”) Weekleyl, both of Dingess, and NaSharia “Sha” Jones, at home; grandchildren, Lora Lafferty (Dustie) Clay, Krista Jonnilyn Jones (Melvin) Bryant, Eva Kay Jones (Sherman) May, Mack Avery Osborne, James Hunter Jones and Natosha Weekley, and great-grandchildren, Hannah May, Adrian Kenneth Baisden, Xavier John Weekley, Makayle Raelyn Weekley and Natalie Grace May.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, at the House of Prayer at Dingess with Rev. Roy Messer Jr. and James Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Community Cemetery at Dingess with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Belfry, Ky., DAV Honor Guard.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Estel Weekley, Sherman May, and Henry Messer.

I just want to be the first to let everyone who reads this to know how much I love and respected you! And thanks for all the kind words you spoke of me and letting me know how much you appreciated what I done for you! That meant alot to me. I, also, want everyone to know that Benny has lost his hero and Hunter will still keep killing those squirrels for ya! Thanks for everything!
