HARTS, W.Va. — John May Sr., 61, of Big Harts, formerly of Cow Creek and Ethel, departed this life Friday, December 21, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington with family and friends by his side.

Born February 25, 1951, in Logan, he was a son of the late Hope and Ellie Stanley May. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Wanda “Susie” May; three brothers, Joney May, Melvin “Claude” May, and Tommy May, and one sister, Loren Kiser.

John served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a retired postmaster at Ethel Post Office, former pastor at Crystal Block Freewill Baptist Church until the closing, former pastor at Switzer Freewill Baptist Church and current Assistant Pastor at Piney Community Church at Harts.

Survivors include one son, John “JJ” (Cyndi) May of Cynthiana, Ky.; one daughter, Susan (Greg) Jones of Big Harts; two brothers, Junior May of Charleston, and Burl (Joyce) May of Logan; four sisters, Mary (Paris) Robinette of Logan, Lilly (David) Elkins of Venice, Fla., Kathy (Mike) Saunders of Matthews, N.C., and Janice (Jimmy) Robinette of Logan, and four grandchildren, Austin and Rachel May, and Gracie and Caleb Jones.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, December 23, at the Piney Community Church with Pastor Kenny Kirk and Brother Vennie Morris officiating.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be John Boy May, Jason May, Bill Gardner, James “Red” Bowers, Greg McCann and Amos Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Rd., Huntington, WV 25702 (Phone 304-781-8400).
