LOGAN - Two men, one from Holden and one from McDowell County, were recently arrested on drug-related charges.

According to a criminal complaint from Logan County Magistrate Court, on Dec. 15, Patrolman E.L. Maynard with the City of Logan Police Department received a call from Sgt. Lester with the West Virginia State Police about two men by the Wendy's in Logan possibly in a drug transaction.

When Maynard approached the two men and attempted to search them, Cody Hager, 25, of Bradshaw (McDowell County), fled on foot toward the Plaza Lanes Bowling Alley. Maynard chased Hager to the front of the WV State Building in downtown Logan, where he was stopped by Logan City Firemen near the Dollar General store.

During the chase, Hager reportedly dropped a firearm in the road, which was recovered later. When searched at City Hall, Hager reportedly had 1.3 ounces of a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and a digital scale with a white substance on it.

While Hager was being handled by Patrolman Maynard, Sgt. Lester stopped a second man on Midelburg Island, identified as John Abe Skeens, 31, of Holden. The West Virginia DNR recovered three baggies from under the bridge where they had been thrown.

One baggie contained 0.128 ounces of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The second baggie contained 0.165 ounces of a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, and the third baggie contained 0.098 ounces of a white powdery substance. Police also found two syringes on Skeens.

Skeens is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hager is charged with fleeing without vehicle, prohibited person with firearm (habitual user), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Both men were arraigned on bonds of $10,000, which they have since posted.
