Inscribed in marble near the Stratton Street entrance to the Logan County Courthouse is the year of 1964. Therefore, the logical deduction for anyone entering the four-story county seat of Logan County government would be to believe the courthouse was built and opened in 1964. That, however, is not the case, although work did begin in early 1964 when drilling was done to determine the bedrock depth before a foundation could be created.

The recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to allow states to permit sports betting comes as no surprise to me, and it will no doubt mean more tax money for the state of West Virginia, which has Gov. Jim Justice smiling from ear to ear since instead of increasing taxes it will in all likelihood mean generating taxes.
