The Logan Banner, originally named the Logan County Banner, was founded in 1888, by Henry Clay Ragland, a veteran of the Confederate army, as a weekly paper.
It was previously owned by Heartland Publications, which was merged in 2012 with other companies into Civitas Media. In 2017, Civitas sold its West Virginia properties to HD Media.
HD Media Company, LLC, is made up of area investors and headed up by managing partner Doug Reynolds. Providing corporate oversight of HD Media LLC is a board of managers. The board includes Doug Reynolds, a Huntington area businessman and a former state delegate; Charleston attorney Marvin Masters; Charleston area businessman Douglas V. Skaff; and Charleston attorney Ben Salango.
HD Media owns several newspapers in West Virginia, including The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, the Charleston Gazette-Mail, the Wayne County News, the Putnam Herald, the Williamson Daily News, the Logan Banner, the Coal Valley News in Boone County and the Independent Herald in Wyoming County.
